San Valentin, the day of Love and Friendship

I have always loved Valentine's Day, and was excited to have my class make cards for everyone and watch the movie Valentine's Day.
Como todas las cosas, Valentine's Day in Ecuador is not the same as it is in the States. Instead of celebrating only romantic love, it's a day to celebrate all love and friendship. This being said it was very appropriate to celebrate in class. We started the class reviewing vocabulary and idioms used in love and relationships, then exchanged valentines and watched a movie.
It was really beautiful to see everyone celebrating love in Quito. People were celebrating friendships, family, colleagues, and romantic love. By going out to eat, get drinks, and the usual gifts of flowers, cards, and chocolates.
Later that night I was wined and dined at one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Quito, Via Partenope. And I think it was because of all the love in the air, that the energy in Quito felt different for the whole week.
